Écluse: Cheers to This

Écluse: Cheers to This

Breathing new life into a Parisian classic, the newly revamped Écluse wine bar is a MUST to visit on your next trip to Paris

Wearing a vintage Thea Porter Couture blouse and skirt in the entrance of Ecluse on Place de Madeleine.

When the infamous Écluse was looking for a new owner, the Caviar Kaspia group jumped on the opportunity to add them to their already flourishing family of high-specialty restaurants including Caviar Kaspia, Maison de la Truffe and Crabe Royal. In partnership with the owners of Petrus, arguably the best Bordeaux wine on the market today, they have given the former Écluse a gorgeous new look and feel.

It's important to know that Écluse has held a special place in Parisian café society dating back to 1951. It was well-known to be the watering hole for famous French singers Jacques Brel, Barbara and Serge Lama, as well as a favorite spot of actor Marcel Marceau, just to name a few. With so much history behind it, it was the perfect moment to breathe new life into this already established brand.

With five locations around Paris, the two most lively reside on the Place de Madeleine and the Place du Marché St. Honoré, yet all locations, as you can imagine, have an in-depth wine selection both by the bottle and by the glass. The food menu is typically French with selections such as escargots, pâté, fois gras, croque-monsieur, salade de quinoa and a tartare "Barbara," aptly named after the songstress herself. I personally tried almost everything on the menu with my husband one evening and found everything super fresh and delicious!

Tasting some vino... :-)

The decor is cheery yet chic with colorful pillows and chairs lining the banquets and a large mural painted on the wall depicting many of the legends that frequented Écluse back in the day. I personally love the modern-day Parisian faces the artist painted into the mural including Kaspia Group owner Ramon Mac-Crohon, toasting with his Petrus partners!

The famous mural!

The downstairs of the Place de Madeleine location has a library-like ambiance and can be privatized for an intimate gathering. It's also home to a cave where the vast wine selection is well-preserved.

Écluse is definitely my new favorite spot in Paris to hang with a glass of wine, grab a bite and enjoy the ambiance. Enjoy, and don't forget to scroll down to shop my look from the story!
