Lingerie All Day: Fleur Du Mal Sets the Trend
So, lately, it seems that every young 'pretty little thing' (Kendall, Gigi, Bella, etc..) is out on the town wearing nothing but lingerie.
I am completely in awe of this new trend, partly because, even in my 20's, I don't think I was bold (or thin!) enough to wear nothing but a bra to a nightclub. Nowadays, however, the lines are blurred between lingerie and clothing and the brand setting this hot new trend is Fleur du Mal.
Founded in 2012 by Jennifer Zuccarini, Fleur du Mal is doing exactly what they set out to do, change the way women wear lingerie. Jennifer herself is a lingerie pro, with a resume that includes working for powerhouse brand Victoria's Secret, as well as being the original designer behind the lingerie brand Kiki de Montparnasse.
A visit to the Fleur du Mal showroom in NYC was as inspiring and encouraging as you can imagine. Housed in a Chinatown loft, the studio was buzzing with the Fleur du Mal team working away in every corner and crevice. It felt authentic, raw and just plain cool, as the early stages of every emerging brand should feel. Jennifer welcomed me warmly and took me through the collection, explaining how easy it can be to wear a strappy bodysuit during the day, without it looking like you're wearing lingerie to the office. Her own look was a perfect example. Paired with a sleek crop jacket, her outfit could be worn to any professional meeting. Take off the jacket later however, and you have a sexy nightime look. It's the perfect "day to night" outfit when you don't have time to go home and change at the end of the day.
After my visit, I was not only encouraged to step-up my real lingerie game but also inspired to take the plunge, literally, and try wearing a beautiful silk camisole out on my Saturday night excursion. This is one trend that even us women out of our 20's can fully embrace!
