Scents & Sensibilities: From Russia with Love
The hottest brands coming out of one chilly city!
Despite the wintery temps, my recent trip to Moscow made me fall in love with the city all over again. It's been five or so years since my last trip so I was excited to revisit the city, celebrate the re-launch of KILIAN perfumes and discover hot brands IZETA and MAISON BOHEMIQUE in the process. Obviously, my first stop was to see Saint Basil's Cathedral, the breathtaking church in the Red Square. Thanks to the anonymous tourist who snapped this shot for me!
One of the purposes of the trip was to help re-launch the #1 selling perfume brand in Moscow, which I am proud to say is KILIAN. Moscow's 'cool crowd' came out to help us celebrate with an over-the-top party at the Baccarat Cristal Room, made complete with a calligrapher on hand to write scented love letters for the guests.
My next stop was to my favorite Russian concept store, Podium, as I heard they had the global exclusive on the "demi couture" brand, Maison Bohemique. This means they are the only store in the world to carry the brand! I was thrilled to discover a collection of Spring cocktail dresses and jackets adorned with feathers, crystals and intricate embroidery. It felt like old-school YSL gone wild and I loved it! Translating back to NYC or Paris, my favorite piece was this cropped tweed tuxedo jacket with gold buttons.
I then went to visit famed fashion & fur brand IZETA, founded and designed by the incredibly lovely Izeta Gadzhieva. Also exclusively sold in Moscow at her own atelier and boutique, I was blown away by the luxury and beautiful quality of each of Izeta's pieces, as well as impressed by the broad range of the collection.
First becoming popular for their fur and leather, IZETA specializes in Russia's most luxury fur; sable, mink and chinchilla. They offer coats in every imaginable shape, as well as work with customer's to create bespoke furs. The customer would choose the style coat they want (i.e. short, long, cape, etc..) and then pick the color of the fur. IZETA then has the coat uniquely made to the customers size and specifications. They also offer ready-to-wear leather items such as leggings, skirts, tops and jackets. I personally love how they styled the gray fur stole over the brown leather jacket!
Graciously showing me around the boutique, Izeta ended the tour with her immaculate collection of gowns in fabrics such as lace, silk and taffeta. Each dress was carefully decorated with beading or embroidery and, imaginably, ready to worn on any glamourous red carpet. By the end of my visit, I wished my suitcase was big enough to take home a few of her enviable pieces but, alas, it'll be something to remember for my next trip to Moscow!
