The Cutest Little Shoes Ever: Aquazzura
On a recent trip to Florence, Italy, I had the extreme pleasure of visiting the headquarters of one of my favorite shoe brands, Aquazzura.
Created by Edgardo Osorio in 2011, Aquazzura has quickly become one of the "it" luxury shoe brands on thousands of fashion forward feet. Edgardo himself is as impressive as the shoes he creates. After attending the London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martins, he built his footwear repertoire over the course of 10 years working at the luxury shoe houses of Salvatore Ferragamo, René Caovilla, and Roberto Cavalli. At the age of just 25, he stepped into the limelight to launch his own brand. Inspired while on a trip to Capri, Osorio created the name Aquazzura, stemming from the Italian "aqua azurra", meaning blue water and with the mindset of evoking a fresh, modern aesthetic. This spirit has been captured in all that he touches, from his famous "Sexy Thing" booties, the Belgravia and Christy flats, and the Wild Thing sandals, which have all become signature Aquazzura styles.
Walking into the palazzo that houses the Aquazzura headquarters along the Arno River, you immediately feel the creativity, thoughtfulness and charm that goes into everything the brand produces. Each room is an explosion of color with inspirational images, sculptures and books in every corner. In the design room, there is Edgardo's single sketching desk, a basket of colorful markers, large mood boards, fabrics draped over chairs and vintage shoes lining the floors.
And then THEY arrived, the cutest, littlest, chicest shoes for young girls that I've ever seen! Launching in January 2017, Aquazzura has created a collection of 15 styles ranging in size from toddler to youth, and reminiscent of styles from their women's collection. Imagine the Belgravia shoe in a mini-version and other obvious Aquazzura details such as pom poms, fringe and bejeweled accents. The result is a mother-daughter dream for those special photo-op family moments!
