The World of Alexis Mabille

The World of Alexis Mabille

I was having lunch with some girlfriends at the Ritz in Paris and one said, “Oh, after we eat, let’s go visit the new boutique by Alexis Mabille here in the hotel…”

She then went on to share, “He also just decorated this super chic new restaurant called Froufrou, let’s check it out next time you’re in town.” Obviously, yes and yes! So, before I dive into this, thank you Tina Lignell (@TL.Paris) for the great tip, much appreciated!

If you aren’t familiar with Alexis Mabille, let’s start by saying that he’s one of those all around creative people who seems to do it all seamlessly. Although he, admittedly, was inspired by both architecture and fashion design at a very young age, he found his first calling in fashion while attending the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture in Paris. After graduating, Alexis continued to hone his design skills while working for the houses of Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent. In 2005, he boldly stepped out on his own to create his namesake fashion label and quickly became known for his signature “bowtie," inspired by the traditional form yet reinterpreted in a modern and spirited way throughout many of his designs.

Being trained in haute couture, Alexis is an official member of the Fédération Française de la Couture and produces both couture and ready-to-wear collections each fashion season. His designs have been seen on celebrities such as Beyonce, Rihanna and Katy Perry, just to name a few! This past July, Alexis was offered one of the highly coveted “jewel-box” retail spaces in the newly renovated Ritz Paris after initially showcasing a few of his gowns in the window vitrines and selling directly to the well-heeled guests staying at the hotel. Another testament to how much his beautiful creations are favored by those looking for couture tailoring, exceptional quality and sophisticated silhouettes.

With this inherent sense of design, Alexis has also been recognized for his work with interiors, starting with his very own Parisian apartment. Most recently, he was tapped to design one of Paris’s hot new restaurants and bars, Froufrou. Located within the Edouard VII Theater, it opened this past September during Fashion Week. With decoration inspired by the end of the 19th century and the exuberance of the “roaring 20s," Froufrou is meant to be an intoxicating experience both through its food and ambiance.

Fully imagined by Alexis, the decor of the restaurant is a luxe combination of interesting details including vintage style mirrors, original chandeliers, old door handles found in the attic of the theater itself, as well as rich tones of blues and cognacs. Headed by chef Juan Arbelaez, the spirit of the food is that of French-style bistro sharing with big dishes placed at the center of the table. After dinner, guests can venture downstairs to the cocktail bar and lounge, another transporting experience thanks to the deep red velvet couches, mirrored ceilings and intimately Parisian vibe.

At the shoot for this story, it was a privilege to be both dressed by Alexis, as well as to share a cocktail at Froufrou together to toast all of the exciting openings throughout his world of fashion and design! I have pulled a few of my favorite pieces from his Fall/Winter collection in the below shopping edit as I love how Alexis’s pieces can be styled in so many ways. Whether you’re headed to a black tie gala or a fun night out with friends, you can’t go wrong wearing this chic French label.

Happy discovery and shopping!
